  18.                               The Danen Utilities

  21. Below is a list of currently published "Danen Utilities."
  22.  
  23. Some programs make assumptions that you should be familiar with:
  24. -  ANSI.SYS is required by some programs.
  25. -  Fairly extensive use is made of environment variables, such as GD.TTY.RIGHTS
  26.    and GD.SOUND.  Set GD.TTY.RIGHTS=N and some command-line programs will
  27.    suppress copyright notices.  Set GD.SOUND=N and BU won't make any noise.
  28.    GD.D controls the default parameters for D.
  29. -  /? will in many cases display brief help messages.
  30. -  For programs that print to network printers, the following conventions are
  31.    used:  LPT1 is HP mode, short timeout; LPT2 is captured in a PostScript
  32.    queue; LPT3 is in HP mode, with a long timeout.

  34. A bug was discovered with BIOS screen updates in true blue BIOS's.  This has
  35. been corrected in programs with a date stamp after March 22, 1995.

  44. 2PS       F  Convert ASCII files to PostScript
  45.              2PS formats files for printing on a PostScript printer.  The
  46.              format used is nice and compact:  normally two pages on each
  47.              physical page, borders surrounding pages, headers with useful
  48.              information (page number, printing date, file name), line
  49.              numbering, etc.  Useful for printing program listings.
  50.  
  51. 2ROWCOL   F  For Batch Files: Move to Anywhere on the Screen
  52.              2ROWCOL enhances the use of MS-DOS batch files. Check 2R.BAT for
  53.              examples.

  55. AUDIT_PW  S  NetWare Security: Audit User Passwords
  56.              AUDIT_PW was developed to tighten up network security on Novell
  57.              networks. Many users use very easy to guess passwords. A common
  58.              password is a potential security leak!
  59.              AUDIT_PW uses a file with common passwords to try on each user
  60.              account. All common passwords are reported.
  61.              A user info file and a status file with other security information
  62.              are als created.

  72.              BU enhances the use of MS-DOS batch files. Automate AUTOEXEC.BAT
  73.              files for BBS and network servers, build menu systems, many more
  74.              uses! BU replaces a number of separate utility programs, such as:
  75.              ASK, CRLF, CURSOR, HEADER, HITENTER, MSG, REDALERT, SOUND, TIMER,
  76.              WARBLE, and YN.

  78. CAST      F  CAST shows the status of CASTON/CASTOFF on Novell NetWare servers.

  80. CDPATH    F  Save & Restore Drive/Directory Settings
  81.              Useful little utility to go back to where you were (drive and
  82.              directory) before you started a program.

  84. CDROM     F  CD-ROM Information
  85.              Shows whether the Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions (MSCDEX) are
  86.              installed, and if so, which version. CDROM lets you know if
  87.              you're using and outdated MSCDEX driver.
  88.              CDROM then tries to determine how many CD-ROM drives you have, and
  89.              their drive letters.

  101.              Useful for backup of floppies and for making multiple disk copies.

  104.              Prevent users from putting a virus on your network by turning the
  105.              floppy drives off.

  107. DSUM      S  Disk Drive Summary
  108.              DOS utility shows statistics on all physical and logical drives,
  109.              including network, SUBST, and CD-ROM drives.
  110.              For each drive you see volume label, total capacity, Kbytes used,
  111.              Kbytes free, % free, low space indicator, current path, mapped
  112.              directory, more.

  115. DUSAGE    S  Netware Disk Usage Analysis
  116.              This DOS utility is a network disk management tool. It allows
  117.              network administrators to manage disk space on the network more
  118.              intelligently. Indicates among others, low disk space for users
  119.              with disk quota (volume restrictions) in place.
  120.              ShareWare $25 per individual user, or $100 per server.

  122. EQ        F  Capture Equipment Information
  123.              Redirect to file if you need to send the information to someone
  124.              via disk or modem.

  126. FATR      S  Change File Attributes Interactively
  127.              Set and remove all file attributes. Even hidden status on
  128.              directories!

  131. FIXPATH   F  Fixes X:. to X:\ after NetWare drive map
  132.              Updates the path after NetWare MAP. Changes all <drive>:. to
  133.              <drive>:\ and creates a batch file in TEMP for you to run.

  135. GO        F  Move very quickly between directories
  136.              GO provides an easy way to switch between directories.  You set up
  137.              logical names for your directories in the DOS environment.

  139. HINT      F  Find Text in (EXE) Files
  140.              HINT is a specialized automatic program documenter.  Real
  141.              Programmers know that the only reliable documentation is the code
  142.              itself, but a lot of programs come as executable code only, and
  143.              I've never met a programmer who claims that EXE files are easy to
  144.              read.  HINT doesn't document these things, but it can help give
  145.              some clues.

  147. MKPATH    F  Make a Path using BRUTE FORCE
  148.              MKPATH is designed to lessen the amount of keying when creating
  149.              and changing to DOS directories.

  151. Q         F  List Jobs in Novell NetWare Print Queues
  152.              The job's priority, name, size, user id, date & time queued,
  153.              status, job number, and form type are displayed.

  155. SCANDIR   F  Scan Directories - Cleanup!
  156.              Part of the Danen Utilities.  SCANDIR is designed as a clean-up
  157.              utility to go through a part or all of a hard disk's files, and
  158.              erase files if so instructed.  Even read-only files can be removed
  159.              by SCANDIR.

  161. SDIR      F  Sorted directory with interactive file delete
  162.              Tag files for deletion, and then delete them all at once. Files
  163.              may be listed by name, extension, size, date/time. View files
  164.              before you decide to delete.

  166. SS        S  Screen saver: non-TSR locks keyboard
  167.              Lock your keyboard with this screen saver. On Novell networks, SS
  168.              uses the user's logon password.

  177. TMSG      F  Tracking System for NetWare Administration
  178.              Two programs make up the tracking system.  TMSG records your
  179.              messages in an ASCII file.  TMSG_LOG takes the ASCII file,
  180.              analyzes the records and updates two .DBF files.  These .DBF files
  181.              can then be manipulated as you see fit.
  182.              If logged in to NetWare, messages are logged to the network In
  183.              stand-alone mode, messages are logged to C:\.

  185. VIDEO     F  Video Mode Change
  186.              VIDEO allows the user to change to any of the standard PC video
  187.              modes, as well as 43-line EGA mode, and 4 ATI EGA/VGA Wonder
  188.              modes.  Command line and interactive modes.

  190. VOLUSAGE  F  NetWare Volume Usage Overview
  191.              VOLUSAGE shows for each volume: total bytes; free bytes; purgable
  192.              bytes; total available bytes; total bytes used; block size.

  196. ZAP       F  Cleanup whole directory structures
  197.              ZAP completely removes a directory along with its files and
  198.              sub-directories, and its files and sub-directories, etc.  Hidden,
  199.              system, and read-only files are removed too!  Optionally you may
  200.              just delete the files and leave the directory structure intact.
